DESIGN AND FIBRES

Design

Each piece in the Illoura collection is thoughtfully designed in our beautiful studio by the sea in Gippsland, Victoria. It is here that our designs come to life, taking inspiration from our surroundings and consciously creating unique and timeless pieces that are intrinsically Illoura. We prioritise quality over quantity, creating considered and concise collections full of keepsakes destined to remain cherished pieces to be passed down through generations.

Our garments transcend trends, representing a considered approach to building a child's wardrobe. Our collections offer well constructed, functional and beautiful pieces that grow in time with your little one.

Fibres

Each material we use to craft our pieces is carefully selected, ensuring that they are as natural and sustainable as possible. Our fabrications are gentle on your little love’s skin and our planet. As of 2019, Illoura The Label can proudly say that all of the textiles that make up our collections are from sustainable sources - either naturally derived or recycled materials.

Cotton

A beautifully soft and durable natural fibre, cotton is 100% biodegradable. It is hypoallergenic, lightweight and breathable, making it an ideal choice for your little one’s clothing, especially in the early days.

We have made a conscious effort to prioritise organic cotton in our collections. Working with our GOTS certified manufacturers in India has allowed us to be transparent and ensure the highest quality of sustainability and ethical practice. 100% of our Pure Beginnings ranges are made from organic cotton, ensuring it is soft on your skin and our planet. Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful chemicals, leaving the soil, air and water free from harmful contaminants while also providing a safer work environment for farmers. It also produces fewer carbon emissions and uses fewer resources to grow. By using predominantly GOTS organic cotton, Illoura The Label is able to guarantee that from the farm through to your wardrobe, the entire supply chain meets the highest global standard and the textiles used in our collections are quality assured.

Linen

Derived from the flax plant, Linen is extremely durable and has the amazing property of getting better with every wear. Linen is considered a preferred material as it requires no herbicides or pesticides to grow and generally all of the plant can be used, reducing waste.

Econyl

Soft, strong and good for our planet, ECONYL® ticks all of our boxes. Our swimwear collection is made from ECONYL®, an innovative regenerated nylon fabric derived from post-consumer materials such as discarded fishing nets, textile waste and industrial plastic retrieved from landfills and oceans. Virgin nylon production is very pollutive, requiring high levels of petroleum and water. ECONYL® reduces the comparative global warming impact of this process by up to 90%, whilst also removing waste products from our precious environment.

We use only certified ECONYL® for both the outer and inner linings of our swimwear. Sourced from the original Italian producer to ensure the highest quality product that will last for countless summers in the sun.
